Salinas began his socio-organizational development back in the 70s, with the arrival of Fr. Antonio Polo and other Salesian volunteers, who has been the manager of this development initiative. Today, this process of development is sustained by the residents of Salinas, who have appropriated their process and are the mainstays that sustain this unique, pioneering and exemplary experience. They have created micro-businesses, creating jobs that have resulted in a stable and progressive economy, using resources from the area. The products that are made are cheeses, mushrooms, nougat, chocolates, yarns, handicrafts, soy products, etc.
In addition Salinas has several tourist attractions including the majesty of the cliffs, the waterfall of Chazojuan, which breaks through these stone giants, the area has endemic fauna such as the tigrillo and some birds such as the turkey.
